Lesson 1 - Basic Tools for Social Marketing
Network Marketing online is the same as network marketing offline. It's all about relationships!

I'm going to show you how to find people and have people asking YOU about your Network Marketing Opportunity!!

First, you need to start thinking of your web site as your own piece of real estate on the Internet. Over time it will appreciate in value. Just like your home or other real estate you may own you can do little things to fix it up and over time it will increase more and more in value.

If you don't have a web site don't worry. I'll show you how to use a free profile at MySpace or another Social Networking site as your primary web site. Throughout the class I will share some of the tools I use. Some of the autorepsonders and other items I use are affiliate program so make sure you check with your sponsor if you join. I will discuss the difference between affiliate programs and Network Marketing on the call tonight.

Just follow the steps each week and you will be on your way!

Each week I'll post a new lesson here in the forum containing "Basic" and "Advanced" action steps. If you simply do the basic steps each week you'll have results by the end of class. I'll also be posting a Video Overview of the lesson and the Conference Call Number and Web Link for those that want to follow online.

So here are the action steps for this week:


1) Introduction Page
Your Introduction Page is your single most important tool. This is where people from all over the world come meet you and decide if you're somone they want to work with!

When you meet someone new offline you typically chat about things of mutual interest, find things you have in common and basically, get to know each other. Right? Your Introduction Page is how this is same idea only happening done on the Internet.

Consider it your profile page your business card. It's a way for people to get to know you. It also helps you screen people before talking to them. Their first stop will be your "Profile Page". I include my Profile in every email I send and on every web page I own.

There are several places you can get a good Introduction Page. This week you only need to make sure you have one created somewhere. I will be discussing what makes a good introduction page on the call. Here are popular ones I use.

Action Steps

BASIC - Create a profile at a social networking site that you will be including in emails you send people. If in doubt use MySpace. I've created a community that we'll be using in this class as an example. Create a profile at our training community. I'll be using that community as our example in class.

ADVANCED - As always if you don't understand an advanced action step IGNORE IT. The advanced action step is to create your own community at Ning.com. You can then create your profile at your own community! Even if your the only member in the beginning it will grow over time. Create a Ning Community


2) Blog Marketing
Commit your goals to writing AND you drastically increase the speed with which things happen. Share your goals with others and you add power to it! People that put it in writing make more money! If nothing else you should be using your blog for this purpose.

Blogs are online diaries or journals where people write their thoughts, poems, or anything else that comes to mind. One of the things you MUST HAVE is a blog. Why? Because search engines love blogs. Your Blog will become one of your most important traffic generating tools. All the blogging sites are very highly ranked. The search engines love all the fresh content and the fact there's so much of it. They also weight links from the blogs more heavily as they believe the verbiage and information contained is coming from "real people" and not "commercial" interests.

When you place a link in your blog, the search engines think that the highly ranked blog site is "recommending" your site.

Action Steps

BASIC - Create your first blog entry. First you need to have a profile like the one described above. Once you have that you will see a place you can post a blog. Your action step is to simply log in and post something even if "Hi, this is my first blog entry"
ADVANCED - Create a blog entry that tells all about you and why you selected the company you're involved in. In the future you will be able to simply send prospects the link to that particular entry after speaking with them. I'll talk about why this is better than emailing the info directly.


Photo Albums
There's no better way to get to know someone than to see them with the people they love, doing the things they enjoy!

Hopefully you're starting to get the picture. People will coming to your introduction page, blog, and your other web resources we are creating. This is all for YOU to sort THEM out so you end up only talking to people you enjoy. If they think you're nuts they wont call you (a good thing) and if they resonate with what they see they will contact you. the net result is you only talk to people that already know ad like you and what you have to say or they wouldn't be talking to you.

Pictures are the most popular pages on any site.

Action Steps

BASIC- Upload your main profile picture. Make sure you have a picture of YOU not your company log or product. People don't make friends with a product. they make Friends with a person.
ADVANCED - Upload several more pictures in your photo album.

Newsletters - Become a Publisher!
Your Newsletter allows you to follow up as much as you want at NO ADDITIONAL COST with everyone that comes to your site . Followup like this would cost you a fortune offline!

You need a newsletter. You need to ask every single person you talk to on the phone if you can add them to your newsletter. You need to ask every visitor to your web site to subscribe to your newsletter.

Marketing offline you would have to mail a tape or brochure. With a newsletter you can check in all the time with your new friend as much as you want and it doesn't cost you a penny.

Subscribe to a few newsletters and pay attention to what you like and don't like about them.

Action Steps

BASIC - Subscribe to a newsletter unrelated to your Network Marketing business. Pick a hobby or something you want to learn more about.
ADVANCED - We'll be making the newsletter one complete class next week. There is no advanced step at this time. Relax :)


Forums
Forums are great for meeting like minded people and creating valuable links to your site! This is very important to start getting traffic to your site. Every time you reply to this post right here you're creating another link to your profile. Regardless of what you say in the post it helps your site get traffic. We will discuss this on the call.

Forums are one of the most under used resources. Search engines love em. They quickly move up to the top of the search engines and for key words you can determine.


Putting It All Together
The above tools are absolute requirements if you're serious about marketing your business online.
Every one of these items can be found free on the net, however, you'll find the best ones, with the best features, can be had for only a few bucks a month.

I used to use Powerful Intentions for most everything as its on of the first social networks I ever created. Now I use my profile here at Bodhian as most the people here are part of my company.

You should the best place for you! you might even consider starting your own community. If you don't use MySpace then choose a community around some topic you like, Then you will meet people like YOU! The more off beat the better!. If you join community filled with Energy Healers and you're an Energy Healer that can be a good place for you. I'll talk on the call how to find a good community. There are communities around Buddhism, Christianity (although not really stated up front), Wine Tasting, Law Of Attraction (TUT.COM), Yoga and anything else you can imagine. Google what youre interested in and add the word community!

There are lots of options. don't worry as we'll be covering this on tonights call.

Don't just join a bunch of communities. Pick one you will truly enjoy spending time at. If you don't ever go blog or post on forums you'll be missing out on a lot.

This will help sort your prospects. If someone reads your profile and thinks you're a jerk they're not gonna call you. That's a GOOD THING.

If they hadn't looked at your profile they would have called you and you would have discovered this non-connection while on the phone together! Ugly!

Come from abundance! Don't beat up Uncle Fred and Aunt Frieda. That doesn't always work and is never fun! Be with people LIKE YOU.

Now that you found company like you all you need is to go find people like you. Your blog, participation in forums and your other tools are the first steps to getting meeting lots of people online, getting highly ranked and enjoying the benefits of owning a high traffic web site!
